Nice Watch

Suffering from man hands at the moment. Too lazy, busy and tired to give myself a manicure so I have opted for the next best thing i.e. 'street style accessorize'. Cos that's as close as I am getting to having a manicure this week. Sort of like having pictures of food and vicariously feeding yourself mental pictures. Quite pointless I know but on the plus side my research has reminded me that I need to buy a Rolex knock-off i.e.Michael Kors gold-plated steel chronograph watch.

Hippy Glam

As a result of a mini flood at mine, my house is in a tip as a result of renovation works. Workmen everywhere, all my stuff in bin bags and out of reach. So I have been imagining ways I could possibly dress when my house gets back in the normal. In the meantime, I have found a fashion discovery of a puffer jacket over a tuxedo jacket with a pair of black pants and boots. Tres chic yet urban. Will make sure I post an 'outfit' post of me in this little discovery of mine.

Punky Souls

While I might have said I don't endorse celebrity, I do endorse designers especially those unexpected designers that have managed to stick to the theme of the night without going OTT. Here are my top five looks from the Met Ball.

Katy Perry wears D&G

Anja Rubik wears Anthony Vaccarello

SJP wears Giles Autumn collection 2013; Philip Treacy faux hawk

Rooney Mara wears Givenchy

Anne Hathaway wears Valentino

Gothic Souls

To celebrate the Met Ball tonight, here is a picture of Sarah Jessica Parker and the late Lee McQueen circa 2006. What I love most about this outfit on SJP is that it is the perfect representation of McQ. Irreverent tartan and Gothic lace over the perfect risk-taker: SJP. Perfection.

Its a Vogue Fest

The vogue festival in London a couple of days ago was all about showcasing insights from leading designers, photographers, celebrities, models and fashion editors into their lives and work. Examples included Victoria Beckham, Donatella Versace, Alexa Chung, Anya Hindmarch, Christopher Kane, Mario Testino, Alber Elbaz, Natalie Massenet, and many more. Those who were lucky to have secured seats apparently enjoyed cover-shoots, mentoring panels, workshops, demonstrations and other exclusive activities.

Okay I might have been slightly jealous at first but I got over it, eat some ice cream and feverishly scawaring for street style photos that might inspire my fashionable senses and cure my rancid hangover...and behold nothing. Nothing? Really nothing? Yes nothing apart from a single photo from Vogue's official street style photos from the website. To a certain extent, I might have to start agreeing with Sienna Miller on her views on the French/British fashion/style wars on Madame Figaro that British women are scruffy and French women are exquisite (Cringe!!!). But on the other hand, what the hell does the Queen of Boho know?

British women are not scruffy! However, I have started seeing some serious scruffy undertones in what we wear. While it may have been cool to pile as much crap as you wanted and it would have looked cool and quintessentially British a couple of years ago, when we were breaking further fashion boundaries and the quirky look was 'in', if you do that now in an era where chicness prevails you end up being termed "scruffy"!  On the other hand, what am I am saying? Might still be 'bitter lemons' over banging head. Here is the best street style look from the Vogue festival. What I love about this outfit is the subtle references to the sixtees plus the Marni shoes. What I wouldn't give...

X&Y-Couple Street Style UK

The pressure that single women feel once you get past a certain age is immense, especially when one happens to be African. Lets just say sometimes it can be a little annoying...feeling like a piece of meat on a slab. But to quite honest my feelings of resentment stem from a line of many things. I obviously can't be as honest as I would wish but lets just say that if it were up to me, I wouldn't really be in a relationship! I know its quite juvenile of an excuse to blame the fear of heartbreak but lets just say I can be quite selfish and the other whatnot's especially mangled with the fact that I am still trying to sort my castle out!!

But I will say when I stumble across quite old photos of couples looking loved up, I do miss that sort of nostalgic cupid feeling. As a friend is getting married soon and the summer of temporary and possibly permanent hook-ups is fast approaching (i.e. festivals and travels), I guess this is simply a post to celebrate relationships, love and the whatnot's.

Tic-Tac-Toe

Speaking to WWD, Tom Ford said not too long ago that he dislikes getting copied by high street chain ZARA.
"A lot of things I did-it's not going to sound anything but egotistical-if I'm lucky and I did the right thing, they will be in Zara way before I can get them in the store, and I don't' like that."

While I can understand the artistic and financial frustration with the copy cat high street, I really am happy that this happens because e.g. A friend of mine wanted to buy a Burberry Mac for the Spring transition to Summer and he simply couldn't stomach forking out over a thousand pounds on a Mac. I was in this same predicament until my sister gave me a Zara Mac for my birthday. While I understand that a Burberry Mac trumps a Zara Mac, my bank account does appreciate the slight curve to the right (i.e. in form of high street giant, Zara).

Another example is the A-Wang Antonia Sandals, why pay £456 when I can get it for less than £40? Yes I know its only an imitation, but seriously while I love the Wangster, I cant imagine forking out that much money on a pair of plain ol' black strappy sandals, especially when the intention is to wear it all through summer and toss it away. Mantra of the say-Do check out Zara shoes

Alexander Wang Antonio Sandals- £456

Zara Sandals- £39.99
